It was an excellent gesture on part of team PICNSTORY to plan to launch the writers of the webzine to an international audience. Authors are a strange breed in himself or herself. They are creative, sensitive and fancy to think in solitude. Yet they appreciate applauds at the end of the day. It is a rare commodity; I mean public appreciation. A simple kudos can make an author spend a sleepless night to create a masterpiece. PICNSTORY has provided us with the much-needed platform.

As an author, not much successful commercially, I can realise the pain one has to undergo publishing his works. Four books later, I still strive to find a mooring for self in the vast literary ocean. I have got two short story collections and two novels to my credit (or, maybe discredit). Getting a traditional publisher with some credibility is painstaking process in itself. Once you get one, in comes the worst part. You are asked to market your book. It means you have to blow your own trumpet- a thing an author worth his/her salt loathes. Trust me, a genuine author can only put his heart and soul into writing expecting this to do all the talking on his/her behalf. Maybe this is a utopian dream in today's world, but the passion for writing in itself is utopian to an extent.

Under the present scenario came the team PICNSTORY with its treasure of fascinating pictures depicting different colours of life. The stories were to be written in 500 to 1000 words. It tickled my creative buds, and I submitted a humble story an year back for the first edition of the webzine. It was gratifying to see the story published. It increased my confidence level. I kept sending stories whenever I could, and the team has been graceful enough to publish me on each and every occasion. They even went on to display my novel 'Boltu' in their bookshelf.

By no means I am a full time writer. I am a doctor by profession. Writing gives the perfect leeway to my mind unleashing my wayward ideas. In addition, at a ripe age nearing 58 it gives me a reason to feel young in company with so many fellow authors emerging with a growing reputation of their own. I have gone through almost all the presentations of the fellow authors in this monthly creative webzine. I feel they are outstanding, presenting stories away from the run-of-the-mill stuff; and often out of the box. I wish them success.

Life has done a full circle for me. From a tentative young man of the early eighties I remain a contented person these days with the realisation that one has to feel satisfied with whatever his/her endeavours are. One grows up in knowledge, stature with age. I was fortunate to have come across a variety of characters during my different jobs including those in Indian Army and PSUs spreading through as untoward places as Siachen Glacier and Indo-Tibetan borders. I was fortunate to have gone through the great transition to information and digitalisation of the world.

Without doing my medical profession any injustice, I tried to pen a few books. In chronological sequence, they are as follows:

1. Pearl Oysters ( collection of short stories)
2. Familiar Faces, Less Familiar Stories (collection of short stories)
3. Boltu (novel)
4. Odyssey of a Postmaster (novel)

Barring the first one, all the other books are available at Amazon in addition to being at offline stores in India.

Though fond of many classic and contemporary authors, I have got my own favourites. Charles Dickens, PG Wodehouse, Thomas Hardy, Ruskin Bond, Anton Chekov, RK Narayan, VS Naipaul are to name a few.

A word of thanks to team PICNSTORY once more for providing me with this opportunity to express myself. Success or not, I can't give up writing in whatever form or platform it is. It is an addiction with me like many. I will continue to do so from my innocuous residence at Bilaspur, a small-time town in India.

Finally, it is you, the audience that egg us on to follow our dreams. Without you, we are a big nothing. We need a bit of pat on our backs from you, and constructive criticisms as well.

With love and warm regards for all,

Debaprasad Mukherjee.
